Saturday, October 20th
Meet at Lake Padden Ball Fields Parking area 9:45am. We will head up the trailhead at 10am. Lunch will be provided around 1pm and the day will wrap up around 4pm.
What you should bring:
Water, snack, work gloves, weather appropriate gear, your favorite tool, and your bike if you want to get a ride in.
We will provide:
Tools, a light breakfast, and refreshments throughout the day, lunch, and a worthy project for you and your buddies to work on.
Since this is our first build day of the season, you’ll need to sign a waiver. We have to update these annually. We’ll have them available in the morning for you to sign, or you can download from the WMBC web site and bring it with you. If you are under 18, your parents will need to sign it too.
See ya out there!
Our annual fundraiser is approaching soon so all you photographers and videographers get filming. We had record attendance last year with a spectacular gallery of photos and videos and a ton of great raffle prizes. Bring the whole family and enjoy some great beer and raise money to help the WMBC keep mountain biking growing in Bellingham.
Over the years the Padden MTN Pedal has become a constant on the racing calendar and has evolved into a classic and renowned Pacific Northwest event. A great location in a city park, the challenging course, awesome volunteers and impeccable race organization is what has kept racers come back for what will now be 20 straight years!
Bellingham’s proximity to British Columbia really adds flair to the event and a good-natured cross border rivalry remains to this day. In fact, Canadian Riders swept the first five years of the event in the Open/Pro classe and Canadian honches like Geoff Kabush, Ryder Hejsdal, Andreas Hestler and Ricky Federau have been on the podium. More recently the USA contingent has had a good run with Ryan Trebon, Barry Wicks and Logan Wetzel earning top honors.
So this is the year for you to come and take part in the event, ponder some of the good times gone past and think of the future ones to come. The race will be stellar as always and the group rides won’t disappoint.
We will have kids rides, epic XC adventures, beginner rides, freeride oriented routes and XC rides that will traverse all the best trails we have on Galbraith. All group rides will be FREE. The weekend will be one to remember for sure so be here…or well…miss out!
We have received the initial go ahead from the City Parks & Recreation Department to proceed with the renovation of the Civic Field Dirt Jump Park. Pending our preconstruction meeting we will begin work on June 18th, 2012.
In a testament to all the hard work put in by the dedicated DJ Park Volunteers led by Michael Storm, more than a few rider have said they feel the park is running better than ever! Which it is, but it could be better and the WMBC is going to make it TOP NOTCH!
Among the main goals of the rework will be to create more transfer lines, upgrade and complete an awesome pump track portion, reduce traffic on the take off hill and last but not least create some solid beginner lines.
Coast Construction will be donating time and labor to get the heavy machine work done but there will be need of hand shaping and general labor too. So keep an eye on the site and sign up for our Facebook page so you can get the updates.
I would call it a successful day up on Chuckanut Mt. We have completed the switchback re-route from Hemlock to Lower Salal in less than four hours. Thank you Superfeet and Performance Physical Therapy for taking care of our volunteers, to all the folks who did the preliminary work before build day, and of course, to our dedicated 23 volunteers who showed up to lend a hand.
