Passing the Torch

A certain sense of trepidation and apprehension kept swirling around my head as I prepared for the WMBC Executive Board retreat that had been in the making over the past year. For much longer than a few months of retreat planning we have been pondering the future of the WMBC, how we could be better, how we would grow and evolve in the best way possible. In fact over the past two decades these very questions dominated my thinking and energy to varying degrees. This retreat weekend was going to be no different, except in one major aspect.

With a mix of nostalgia and relief I was hoping to be a part of the process from a very different perspective. For the past year we have been seeking trusted advice and input as to how best, and most importantly when, to pass the torch of leadership on. The torch that WHIMPs founder Jim Sullivan lit and passed to me nearly 20 years ago.

January 6th, 2013 Build Day-Sponsored by Jack’s Bicycle Center


This Sunday’s trail day will be on Galbraith – Sponsored by Jack’s Bicycle Center.  We plan to get El Pollo and Ewok Village up and running to complete access to the middle part of the mountain; depending on the size of the turnout, we may send a crew on Cedar Dust and Bandito to get some drainage taken care of.

Where:  Galbraith Mountain
Time:   Meet at Lake Padden by the Softball Fields at 9:45.  We will leave for Trail work at 10.
Food:  Food and beverages will be provided by Jack’s Bicycle Center
Tools:  Bring your favorite tool, gloves, and warm clothes – We have many tools to provide as well
