Shoot the Trails Awards

2018 Shoot the Trails Recap

The 8th Annual Shoot the Trails event was one to remember because there was a lot to celebrate.  Rob Janicki (Galbraith Tree Farm, LLC), Leslie Bryson (Bellingham City Parks), Rich Bowers (Whatcom Land Trust), April Barker (Bellingham City Council) and Pinky Vargas (Bellingham City Council) came out to join us to celebrate the collaborative efforts of securing the recreational and conservation easement on Galbraith.  The WMBC Trail Director, Eric Brown, also kicked off the fundraising campaign for a new parking lot on Samish Way. The estimated costs are $285,000 and the Rotary Club of Bellingham has planned to donate $100,000 to help get us going. Here’s more info regarding the Parking Lot Fundraiser.  Then we had a blast from the past fly up from California.  Jim Sullivan (aka Sully) the man who started the WHIMPS and is known as the godfather of mountain biking in Whatcom County was awarded the WMBC Lifetime Achievement Award, along with Mark Peterson, who served as WHIMPS President and Vice-president for 22 years and turned a club into a non-profit.  Then Val Thompson and Kevin Menard were recognized for their volunteer work and significant impact on our community by receiving the Sully Award. What a way to start out the night!  We had a packed house and 700 people in attendance, a large variety of adult beverages, great photographs and videos and awesome raffle items.  It was another successful event and we are looking forward to next year.

Thank you to our title sponsor, Phillips 66, for making this event possible and all of our wonderful local business, bike shops and breweries for making this event awesome!
