Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day, Saturday October 4th

Galbraith Trail Day Sunday March 3rd

Great build day to complete a new line joining the pipeline area trails to the tower road area.

Weather cooperated, a cool morning with sun breaking out at lunchtime. Thanks to Cary for hauling the trailer up, Hannah and Barbara for coordinating all the details involved in these projects.

Kona provided breakfast, lunch and beverages- Good turnout from Kona staff for labor, also. About 30 total trail builders, lots of tree limbs and skidder tracks to build through, some stubborn stumps, a fully benched sidehill section, and a large fill section to make a climbing turn tie the tail together. A good mix of experienced regulars, with some new faces showing up to play in the forest. Mark Belles crafted the sign at the top, my dog Bobbi modeled.

The trail began construction in January with a group of Fairhaven MS 8th graders working their Service Learning Project. Chris Mellick and Becca coordinated and instructed the 7 students, with 4 build days completed. They cleared and roughed in the lower 1/4 of the trail from the Lost Giants connector, just up from the pipeline / Last Call segment.

The trail restores an old segment of Lost Giants, crossing the creek at Galbraith Falls, climbs a small ridge out of the wet boggy areas, meanders around a glacial erratic and some “days of yore” ladders and bridge work. Climbing up and around a ridge, it uses a short remnant of Not Shawns, and winds up the hill to meet Safety Break at the road 2200 end.

The trail will get the finish work completed over the next few weeks, final grading and fill, handrails on the bridge, and some limbing.

Dogpatch is mostly rideable at this point, and should provide a desirable alternative to the pipeline trail to link the east and west areas on the south side of the hill.
